Temporary Nursing License

A temporary nursing license is a short-term license given to nurses to practice within a specific State for a brief period of time prior to the permanent nursing license being issued.  In the nursing industry, the term ‘temporary nursing license’, ‘temporary RN license’ and ‘temporary LPN license’ are all synonymous because they refer to the exact same thing.  However, each State is slightly different with timing and requirements.  In general, the process will begin with applying for a temporary license which will be valid for a certain period of time, usually three to six months.  There are two types of temporary nursing license, the single state temporary nursing license and the multi state temporary license.  This article will go over the temporary single state license.
