Mississippi, known as the Magnolia State, is ranked #30 in total number of CRNA Schools in the United States.  It shares the #30 CRNA School ranking with Washington, Utah, Iowa, South Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, and a few other States.  The State is well-known for its American charm, history, and culture.  Mississippi is the State where many popular music types originated, whether it be country, jazz, and rock.  Students at CRNA Schools in Mississippi appreciate the atmosphere full of history with Civil War battlefields and American influence.

Located in the South United States, Mississippi is part of the RN Compact States agreement.  This means RN nurses can move around freely and work within all 33 approved multi-license states.  However, it’s important to note that there is no such APRN Compact for nurse anesthetists yet though this may change in the future.

Nurse Anesthetist Programs in Mississippi

There is only one CRNA Programs in Mississippi located in the suburbs of Hattiesburg as shown below:

  1. USM CRNA Program, Hattiesburg (Doctor of Nursing Practice)

USM, known as the University of Southern Mississippi, has had 3 cohorts, 4 full time faculty and approximately 20 students per cohort. As of Year End 2020, there are 122 CRNA schools in the United States and 2.4 CRNA schools in each State on average.  To compare, there are 13 CRNA schools in Pennsylvania and 9 CRNA schools in Florida.  In addition, South Carolina and Tennessee both have 6 CRNA schools.

On the other hand, there are no CRNA programs at all in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, Vermont, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Hawaii.  Oftentimes, the States with more CRNA schools tend to have more CRNA jobs as well.  Unfortunately, the BLS does not publish the number of CRNA jobs in Mississippi.

CRNA Programs in Mississippi Acceptance Rate

CRNA Programs in Mississippi Acceptance RateThe average acceptance rate for CRNA schools in Mississippi is 40%, which is extremely higher than the national acceptance rate of 26%.  The reason for USM CRNA Program being a very high acceptance rate is because the class size is quite large considering the number of qualified applicants applying to the CRNA school.  The class size is 20 students with approximately only 50 qualified applicants each year applying.  This may be a hidden gem for students looking for the easiest CRNA schools to get into.
