Kansas, known as the Sunflower State, is ranked #16 in total number of CRNA Schools in the United States.  It shares the #16 CRNA School ranking with Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, South Carolina as well as other States.  The Kansas economy is more well known for farming, petroleum and the production of natural gas.  However, that doesn’t stop students studying in CRNA Schools in Kansas from enjoying museums, gardens, zoos and famous rodeos and horseshows.  CRNA students in Kansas rave how Kansas city is centrally located, has a fair cost of living and provides a wide range of excellent schooling and cultural chances for growth.

Kansas is included in the RN Compact States agreement that means RN nurses in Kansas are able to move around freely and work within all 33 approved multi-license states.  However, it’s important to note that there is no such APRN Compact for nurse anesthetists yet though this may change in the future.  This is something that is important when people consider CRNA Schools in Kansas.

  2. Newman CRNA, Wichita (Master of Science in Nursing Anesthesia)

KU CRNA Program, formally known as Kansas University, is the largest university in Kansas with over 30,000 students enrolled throughout the State.  The Kansas University CRNA Program is rated among the top academic medical centers nationwide by the University HealthSystem Consortium.  In addition, the University of Kansas Hospital is one of the top ranked by US News.  Newman CRNA, boasts that 60% of those CRNAs locally in Kansas were trained by Newman University with 85% of those hired in the past 5 years trained by them.  That is a very impressive statistic.  Also, Newman University graduates practice in 20 States across the US, which is great because it means that graduates have the opportunity to work outside Kansas in the future.  With that in mind, the School is currently in the process of accreditation for its DNP program but still offering the MSNA degree in the meantime.

As of Year End 2020, there are 122 CRNA schools in the United States and 2.4 CRNA schools in each State on average.  To compare, there are 13 CRNA schools in Pennsylvania and 9 CRNA schools in Florida.  In addition, North Carolina and Tennessee both have 6 CRNA schools.  On the other hand, there are no CRNA programs at all in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, Vermont, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Hawaii.  Oftentimes, the States with more CRNA schools tend to have more CRNA jobs as well.  Unfortunately, BLS does not rank the number of nurse anesthetist jobs in Kansas.
